Description
One of our smallest birds, the insect-eating Ruby-crowned Kinglet is one of my favorites. This species is incredibly hyper, constantly flicking its wings and is one of the harder songbirds to photograph. Males of this species have a brilliant red/pink crown that they don't often display. I photographed this individual just before sunset in nice evening light along the edge of a pond. This species is typically strictly migratory through the Boston area; however, this individual tried to winter (but I don't believe it succeeded).
