Piping Plover

With a global population of about only 6000 individual birds, Piping Plovers are an endangered species. They nest mostly on sandy beaches and because of this, are subject to pressure from recreational beach use. Thankfully, most nesting areas in the northeast are roped off and inaccessible to the public. Recent conservation efforts throughout the Piping Plover's range have been extremely successful, and there has been a noticeable population increase.
