Carolina Wren by Ryser915 Carolina Wren by Ryser915
This is an environmental shot of a Carolina Wren. Carolina Wrens are small scrappy birds that remain in their territories year round, and vigorously defend them. Probably the most interesting aspect of their behavior is the fact that they build decoy nests to confuse predators. While one of the pair sits on one of possibly many fake nests, the other is sometimes relatively far away, sitting on the more hidden real nest.

oh, so nice... i just saw this one on the random display... :D
the wren is one of my special fave birds round here... the german one looks a little different - a bit browner and the white stripes are not so distinct... again i have a little painting of my mother...
[link]
but they have one thing in common, building several nests...
they are so small but about the loudest singers round here - i love their gorgeous voices, they make me smile... :D

I wonder if other birds ever move into the wrens' leftover decoy nests?

This is beautiful! The little guy's colors aren't bold, but they tie in so beautifully with the surroundings, and at the same time he stands out well from the branches that surround and frame him.
