Blackburnian Warbler

Description

Blackburnian Warblers are by far my favorite migrant warbler. Unfortunately, they favor the treetops so are heard more often than they are seen. This bird however, was an exception. It was feeding and singing with a huge mixed flock of warblers, often coming at or below eye level. When flocks of migrants get big enough, birds that you normally see well up into the canopy often come down low and boldly feed out in the open. Massachusetts has seen a massive migrant fallout over the past few days, due to a stalling low pressure system over the state. Plum Island was dripping with warblers, and myself and a friend had 23 species of them in a few hours!

I love that rich orange color on his belly! The way you photographed this bird, it's like he's showing it off for us! :aww:
